Welcome

Batchwood Hall Bowls Club is a hidden gem, found in the peaceful surroundings of Batchwood Sports and Golf Centre.  We have a spacious, modern club house and a quality green, excellently cared for by the team that looks after the surrounding golf course.  There is plentiful free parking. We are a mixed club with a famously friendly reputation and we are always keen to welcome new members

Bowls is a simple sport, easy to learn, suited to all age groups, genders and abilities.  It is a sociable and enjoyable form of gentle exercise in which men and women can play together on an equal footing.  The club has qualified coaches and ‘Open Afternoons’ are scheduled, when the public can meet us and try the sport for free on Sunday 20th April, BH Monday 21st April and BH Monday 26th May, all at 2pm.   Just bring flat soled shoes. All other equipment is supplied.  If you cannot attend these, contact us and our coaches will be happy to meet you and arrange a taster session.  A free short coaching course is provided for potential new members and first year subscriptions are reduced.  All organised matches and casual roll-ups are free.

A social ‘club night’ roll-up takes place on Monday evenings with an optional supper at small cost and during the winter months various social events take place in the club house. The Club has an excellent kitchen and bar, serviced by the members.

Our green will open for play on Saturday 12th April, when the club welcomes our Patron, the Mayor of St Albans, to cast the first bowl. Our varied program of matches can be viewed under the Fixtures tab.  The inter-club ‘friendlies’ are sociable occasions with light refreshments and chatter afterwards.   For the more ambitious, the club enters team leagues at County and District level, with some success.  In-house club competitions and events are held and members can enter the individual competitions organised by the National, County and District Associations.  Bowls truly has something to offer to everyone.
