BATCHWOOD HALL BOWLING CLUB – PRESS REPORT - 28th September 2026

Matches

The last game of the season took place mid-week away at Radlett BC. It consisted of 3 mixed rinks. One rink drew 14-14, one lost 15-16 the third rink won 20 – 15 giving an overall win to Batchwood of 49 - 45, a very close game. The top rink was Jackie Bell, Jim Harrison, Sue Swain and skip Mark Trembling.

Watford Vets

Batchwood had two teams in the Watford Vets League. There are five leagues. They play a total of sixteeen games in the season. Ten players are in each team with 6 being chosen to play each week in a triples match. The Blues got promotion to the 1st league and the Yellow team got promotion to the 2nd Division at the end of last season. Both teams are now playing tougher opposition but both finished mid-table this year – well done to all players!

Congratulations to Dave Richardson & Mark Trembling who got to the final of the Watford Vets Australian pairs competition. Unfortunately they did not win but it was a close game - they were narrowly beaten by Ian Cox and Tom Kealey from Kings Langley BC (see photo)

Closing Day

Closing Day took place at the weekend with a mixed triples competition run by Jackie Bell. It was a beautiful sunny day. The format is 3 rounds of 6 ends. Each team playing a different opponent on a different rink. The skips were chosen with the rest of the teams being drawn.The winner is the team with the best aggregate score.

The runners-up were a team of ladies: Joyce Hopkinson, Pat Batchelor and Sue Swain. The winners were an all men’s team: George Tutt, Mark Trembling and Brian Roberts. (see photos)

To wind up the day the members retired to the clubhouse to enjoy tea & cakes and a lively chat. A programme of winter activities are being formalised for members until the start of next season in April 2027.

Bowling Green

Members will be helping the groundsmen for the End of season work which will commence on the bowling green after Closing Day on 28th September, weather permitting.
