Batchwood Bowing Club - Press Report 12th May 2025

The sun and lady luck shone on Batchwood this weekend continuing our winning streak with a win away at Potten End on Saturday. The top rink was Eddy Thackeray, John Bell and Sue Swain. On Sunday a narrow win at home over Tring by just 2 shots. Top rink was Liz Walls, Joyce Hopkinson and Mark Trembling.

This week Batchwood members have been busy competing at National & County level in competitions. Our Ladies' champion, Jackie Bell, played in the preliminary round of the National Champion of Champions knock-out competition. She played Rita Last of Garston Bowls Club at home. Jackie won 21 - 4.

Dave Richardson & Yvonne McCauliffe played in the National mixed pairs away at Herts BC against Carly Bishop & partner. They had a magnificent win 5 – 15.

Chris Kelly, John Bell & John Turkentine played their County Triples away against Harpenden but lost 11 – 15. John Turkentine played his National unbadged singles later against Nigel Whittle away at Townsend winning 4 – 21.

Batchwood are holding another Open Day on Bank Holiday Monday 26th May between 2.00p.m – 5.00p.m. All members of the public are welcome to attend. A rare opportunity to experience the thrill of bowling with guidance from coaches and experienced bowlers. All equipment will be provided. Flat soled shoes need to be worn.
