BATCHWOOD HALL BOWLING CLUB – PRESS REPORT 4th May 2026
Batchwood played away at Potten End Bowls Club in the Inter-club Two Fours National Competition. Sue Swain, Ladies Captain, reports that ‘it was quite chilly and windy with the sun in our eyes one way. It then got rather gloomy towards the end of the evening, not helped by smoke from a wood fire drifting over the green!’ Batchwood won by 5 shots on one rink and only losing by one on the other. Overall score 31 – 27. Batchwood play Berkhamsted away in the next round.
The midweek match was played away at Hatfield, the result was Hatfield 69 Batchwood 57. Batchwood top rink was Liz Walls, Richard Cleal and Ian Connaughton. At the weekend Batchwood played at home versus Berkhamsted winning by just one shot. Top rink was Lesley Tutt, Jon Quick and Mark Trembling.
At the weekend Batchwood members played a Power of Ten competition. This in-house club competition is a friendly tournament designed for members to showcase skills, build confidence and foster camaraderie. Each bowler has 3 bowls and plays 3 sets of 6 ends in pairs. Each set is played with a new partner. Bowlers keep their score and build own individual total. The four closest bowls each end scores 4 points, 3 points & so on. Highest individual wins after 3 sets of matches. The winner was John Turkentine, Vice President & Level 2 Coach.
Batchwood is currently running three Coaching Courses. They all commenced immediately after the Open Day weekend. Well attended by both visitors who have joined the club this year and others who are deciding whether Bowls is the sport for them. A further three Coaching Courses will take place in June and bookings are already being taken.
A FREE coaching course is provided for potential new members and first year subscriptions are reduced. All organised matches and casual roll-ups are free.
