Batchwood Hall Bowling Club - Press Report

Batchwood continued their winning streak beating Hatfield away with a resounding win of 100 - 64. Top rink was John Bell, Yvonne McCauliffe and Mark Trembling. After a week of 'slapping on sunscreen' it was back to fleeces in a cold wind for a home game against Berkhamsted on Sunday. Winning 3 out of 4 rinks Batchwood won 76 - 64. Top rink was Jackie Bell, Kate Horner and Brenda Bennitt. Back to the clubhouse for hot tea to warm up!

On Friday Batchwood Ladies played their first District Rinks League game away at Harperbury. After a shaky start Batchwood fought back in a very nip and tuck game to win on both rinks 13 - 9 and 18 - 17 giving Batchwood the full 30 points.

Saturday saw the first of the internal club events with the pairs ‘Power of Ten’ competition. The format is 3 sessions of games of 6 ends with different partners for each session. Individuals keep their own score cards for all sessions with scores carrying over. Scoring is 4-3-2-1. (4 for shot, 3 for second and so on). The 2025 winner was Sandra Clarke, pictured above with the club captain Dave Richardson having presented the cup..

Congratulations to Sue Swain (see photo) who has achieved her Level 1 coaching qualification. The qualification is delivered in partnership with 1st for Sport Qualifications (Awarding Body) and gives an externally accredited Nationally recognised qualification (regulated by Ofqual). Sue is very much looking forward to coaching the club's new members.

Press Report

29th April 2025

Three photos showing the use of wet mats @ Potters Bar bowls club. The wet mats are used to help protect the green after heavy rain and when the green is soft. On every end the mat must be placed overlapping the wet mat for the delivery.  This means that the position of the mat cannot be varied during the game.

Batchwood Hall Bowls Club lost their first game of the season by only 2 shots away at Redbourn. This week they played 4 games in 5 days winning all of them. Details below...

On Wednesday Batchwood  played St Albans at home in a mixed triples match. Batchwood won on 3 of the 4 rinks with a winning score of 67 – 54. The Top rink was Richard Cleal, Ian Connaughton & Jenny Gauthier. Congratulations to Richard Cleal who was playing in his first match for the club.

On Thursday a match against Potters Bar away. There was heavy rain in the morning so, as a precaution to protect the green, wet mats were used. Again Batchwood defeated the opposition with a score of 84 – 68. Top rink was Yvonne McAuliffe, Chris Kelly & Brian Parkes.

At the weekend a friendly game away at Radlett on Saturday. A chilly morning, but sunny afternoon with Batchwood winning 66 – 46. The Top rink was John Turkentine, Eddy Thackeray, George Tutt & Jenny Gauthier.

On Sunday they played Dunstable at home winning 87 - 78, winning on 3 out of 5 rinks. The top rink was Liz Walls, Jerry McAuliffe and Jenny Gauthier.

Every Monday during the season it is Club-night. It is an opportunity for the social members to play bowls and join the full members on the green. Anyone who attended our Open Days is welcome to come along. Starting on 12th May a buffet will be available in the clubhouse after the game for a small charge (it has to be ordered in advance).
