Batchwood Hall Bowling Club Press Release 7th July 2025

In the men’s County Senior Fours competition Batchwood Hall BC continue their success coming through the quarter finals on a neutral green at Baldock Bowls Club. An excellent match to watch skipped by Dave Richardson and his team Eddie Clark, Dave Gauthier, and Mark Trembling. They played a formidable team from Welwyn Garden City BC, skipped by Ken Chamberlain, winning 20-14. The Batchwood Hall team is now through to the Semi Finals to be played on a neutral green at Welwyn and District BC on 17th July.

The ladies, not to be out done by the men, also came through their County Senior Fours quarter final playing on a neutral green at Letchworth BC. The ladies were skipped by Liz Schlatter (a replacement due to injury) and her team Brenda Bennitt, Joyce Hopkinson, and Jenny Gauthier. They played K Dear and her team from Baldock BC, with our ladies winning 21-16 in an entertaining game. The ladies progress to the Semi Finals and will also play at Welwyn and District on 17th July.

In the St Albans and District men’s competitions, Batchwood Hall BC continue to hold their own. In The Harry Stanford Singles David Richardson played T Stickland from Welwyn Garden City, John Bell played Trevor Kirby from Welwyn and District and Dave Gauthier played Martin Voyle also from Welwyn and District BC. All three of our men won their matches and are now through to the fourth round.

The Jones Cup is a St Albans and District two rink knock out competition. One rink is played at home and the other away at the same time. The format is two woods per bowler and eighteen ends. Batchwood Hall BC played Harperbury BC, with the home team skipped by Dave Gauthier winning 20-10 against Aaron Langley and his team. Batchwood Hall’s away team, skipped by Mark Trembling, lost their match 11-20. However, this gave a combined overall score of Batchwood Hall 31, Harperbury 30, so Batchwood Hall BC go through to play North Mymms in the second round.

Batchwood Hall BC played a friendly match away against Berkhamsted on a warm Wednesday afternoon. A good-hearted match with three teams playing for each side. Batchwood Hall won with an overall score of 57-39.
