BATCHWOOD HALL BOWLING CLUB – PRESS REPORT - 31st August 2026

Batchwood played a 2 rink friendly mixed match away at North Mymms during the week. They managed to dodge the thunderstorms. One rink lost narrowly after a hard fought game 14 – 11. The other rink won 34 – 5. The top rink was Jackie Bell, Brian Roberts, Don Smith and skip Sue Swain.

The men played a District league game at home against North Mymms. Batchwood won on all 3 rinks and gain the full 80 points.

The men played in the Semi-finals of the Triples League against Welwyn Garden City. Batchwood had played five games and won all five to get to the semi-final. Unfortunately Batchwood lost the semi-final against very strong opposition and WGC go forward to the Final.

After a summer of heat-waves the Bank Holiday weekend was forecast to be wet with thunderstorms, and possible flooding. On the BH Saturday Batchwood had an OPEN 2-wood singles in-house competition. Any playing member could enter. It is played to 21 ends; if the match is drawn after the 21st end and extra end is played.

The day started with drizzle and occasional breaks of sunshine. The competition was temporarily stopped for a time when the rain was consistent. The semi-finals were played between Eddy Thackeray and Brian Parkes, and John Turkentine and Chris Kelly. This was the fourth round of the competition and was, for the most part, played in torrential rain. The eventual winners were Brian Parkes and Chris Kelly who will play on the Batchwood Finals weekend on the 12th / 13th September. They should be commended for perservering with the game and were watched by members in the clubhouse.
