BATCHWOOD HALL BOWLING CLUB – PRESS REPORT - 18th August 2025
There were 32 teams in the Ladies Senior Fours Championship at the National Finals. These teams were the 32 area winners who advanced to the National Finals according to Bowls England.
The Batchwood team of Brenda Bennitt, Joyce Hopkinson, Jenny Gauthier & skip Jackie Bell the Herts Ladies Senior Fours Champions headed up to Leamington for the National Finals. In the first round they played Leicestershire (New Lount BC). The green was a very fast and one-sided green and Leicestershire were very strong opposition. Unfortunately Hertfordshire were defeated. The Batchwood team should hold their heads up high as they are the Hertfordshire Ladies Senior Fours Champions - an accolade that is no mean feat.
The Herts County Men’s Club League - South finished during the week with the Batchwood men qualifying and going through to the semi-finals.
In the St Albans & District Bowling Association 2 wood Triples competition Batchwood played Townsend at home in the semi-final. The Batchwood team of John Bell, Brian Parkes & skip Dave Gauthier were losing 5 - 9 at 10 ends but only lost two more ends before winning 27 – 14.The Townsend team was skipped by Alan Charran. They are now in the St Albans & District Men's Final.
Liz Schlatter & Sandra Clark played Una Harman & Martine Underwood away at Hatfield in the District pairs. At 11 ends the Batchwood pair were leading 18 – 10. Hatfield then rallied and won the next 4 ends bringing the score to 18 – 16. On the 16th end Batchwood picked up an amazing 5 shots and eventually won the game 23 – 22. A nail-biting finish to a very exciting game. The Batchwood team are now in the St Albans & District Ladies semi-finals.
