BATCHWOOD HALL BOWLS CLUB – PRESS REPORT - 25th August 2025
After the excitement of being represented at the Bowls England finals last weekend Batchwood Hall Bowls Club members have settled down to a more normal pace of life.
The Jones Cup Sem-final took place at the weekend against Hatfield BC. It is a knock-out competition on a one rink home and one rink away basis, playing at the same time on the same day. Play is 2 woods per bowler and played to 18 ends. The Home team was John Bell, Jerry McCauliffe, Brian Parkes and skip Dave Gauthier. The home team won by 3 shots. The Away team was Eddie Clark, John Turkentine, Mark Trembling and skip Dave Richardson. They lost by 2 shots. The overall result meant that Batchwood won by one shot (what a close game!) and proceed to the Final which is played on Friday 5th September at Potters Bar BC.
In the St Albans & District Bowling Association 2 wood Triples competition Batchwood played Townsend at home in the semi-final. The Batchwood team of John Bell, Brian Parkes & skip Dave Gauthier were losing 5 - 9 at 10 ends but only lost two more ends before winning 27 – 14.The Townsend team was skipped by Alan Charran. They are now in the St Albans & District Mens Final. See photo One.
The Integra League is proving to be very popular with our new members who compete with and against our more established members. This takes place every Thursday afternoon and evening until the end of the season. See photo two.
The Batchwood Ladies played the District Triples League against Harpenden BC. The Home team of Liz Walls, Joyce Hopkinson and skip Sue Swain won 19 – 13. The Away team of Sandra Clark, Kate Horner and skip Jackie Bell also won scoring 23 – 12. Batchwood gained all points.
