BATCHWOOD HALL BOWLING CLUB – PRESS REPORT - 2nd September 2025
On Sunday morning the Batchwood men’s teams played in the Herts County League Divisional semi-finals against Welwyn Garden City. The Teams were John Bell, Jerry McCauliffe, Brian Parkes and skip Dave Gauthier who won 18 – 13. The other team was Eddie Clark, John Turkentine, Mark Trembling and skip Dave Richardson who lost 14 – 16. Batchwood went through to the final by three shots. In the Final, played in the afternoon, against Harpenden Dave Gauthier’s team lost 14 – 16, Dave Richardson’s team won 16 – 15. Batchwood lost by just one shot...a great achievement as it was played on Harpenden's green.
Batchwood Hall Bowling Club hosted the first of 3 semi-final days for the St Albans & District Ladies Bowling Association (SADLBA).There were five semi-finals held at Batchwood Hall BC with very good competitive play. The other two clubs hosting are Hatfield and Potters Bar BC.
At Hatfield the SADLBA semi-finals continued with Sue Burbidge (North Mymms BC) playing Jackie Bell (Batchwood Hall BC) in the Champion of Champions semi-final; and Sandra Clark & Liz Schlatter (Batchwood BC) playing Rosemary Biggs and Carol Brown (Kings Langley BC) in the Ladies Pairs. Unfortunately both Batchwood teams were defeated.
At the weekend Batchwood Hall played a 2-woods singles internal competition open to all players. It is played to 21 ends with an extra end being played in the event of a tie. The match finishes if a player cannot catch up in remaining ends. Several new members who joined this year participated, and also marked some of the games. The semi-finalists were George Tutt playing Jackie Bell, and Sue Swain playing John Bell. The finalists are Jackie Bell playing husband John Bell on Finals Day.
