BATCHWOOD HALL BOWLING CLUB – PRESS REPORT 1st June 2026
The Tony Allcock Trophy is a national club competition hosted by Bowls England. It is a mixed, over-60s team event named in honour of the legendary English bowls player and former Bowls England Chief Executive, Tony Allcock OBE.
The format is two rinks of four players (each rink must consist of two men and two women). Open to all club members who have attained their 60th birthday. Played over 18 ends with two bowls per player. The tournament starts with local area / county qualifying rounds before advancing to the All-England knockout stages.
Batchwood played Welwyn & District Club on a very hot Bank Holiday Monday. Brian Parkes skipped against Barry Smith, and Dave Richardson was against skip Paddy Jones. It was a very close aggregate score on the two rinks. The result ended up with a measure on the final end with Welwyn & District winning by one shot - 35 - 36.
On a hot afternoon with a nice breeze Batchwood Bowls Club beat Hemel Hempstead 46 – 34. Top rink was Joshua David, Jackie Kenealy. Lesley Tutt and Ian Connaughton 22 – 11.
Batchwood played Welwyn Garden City in the Men’s District League. It was very close on 2 rinks but Batchwood lost heavily on the third. The winning rink was Joshua David, Jon Quick, John Turkentine and Brian Parkes. Batchwood gain 20 points with WGC 60 points.
In the County Triples Round 2 the Batchwood team of Jackie Bell, Joyce Hopkinson and Sandra Clark played Jane Dunnett, Clara Russell and Ann O’Hare of Welwyn & District Club winning 22 – 6.
In the St Albans & District Pairs John Bell & Brian Parkes played Gordon Wright and David Brooks of Harpenden winning 37 -5 the game being conceded on the 14th end. Mez Setoudeh and Ian Young played Steve Pariser & Glen Cuthbertson of Harpenden winning 22 – 8. A very commendable performance from the Batchwood pair who only joined the club late last season. Chris Kelly & John Turkentine played Peter Thomson & Alan Charran of Townsend losing by only one shot 14 – 15.
In the Watford Vets League George Tutt and Joshua David beat Paul Bloom and Ray Rosenthal from Herts Bowls Club 20 – 16.
