Batchwood Hall Bowling Club – Press Report 23rd June 2025

Batchwood Hall has had recent successes in the National, County and District competitions.

In the over 60’s men’s National Pairs, Edward Clark and David Richardson are through to the semi-finals, beating Tony Redford and his partner from Harpenden Bowling Club 14-11.

In the men’s County Competitions Batchwood Hall continue to do well with Edward Clark now down to the last 8 in the Unbadged Singles. David Richardson and his team played Whitethorn Bowls Club at home beating B. Chandler’s team in the County Senior Fours. The men next play in the quarter finals on a neutral green at Baldock.

Not to be outdone, the Batchwood ladies, Jackie Bell skipping for Jenny Gauthier, Brenda Bennitt and Joyce Hopkinson had a tremendous result in the ladies County Senior Fours against the team from Potters Bar skipped by Diane Jewell, winning 16-7. The ladies will also play in the quarter finals on a neutral green at Letchworth.

The St Albans and District competitions are now underway with early positive results. In the men’s Gorhambury Fours Jerry McAuliffe led his team consisting of Steve Lea, Eddy Thackeray and John Bell against Steve Maynard’s team from Harpenden. A very tight game with the score at 18 ends 17 all. An extra end had to be played with the Batchwood men coming through, winning by 3 shots with a final score of 20-17.

In the Stockman and Winser Mixed Fours, Mark Trembling skipped Jerry McAuliffe, Yvonne McAuliffe and Beryl Birch against Jan Southwell’s team from Potters Bar, winning 22-12 on a very warm Sunday morning.

In the St Albans and District Ladies Singles competition Jackie Bell came through beating Elaine Wulcko 21-10.

Batchwood Hall Bowling Club played a friendly match in a good spirit against Kitchener’s at home, with Kitchener’s winning overall with a score of 51-44. The top rink for Batchwood Hall was John Bell, Jackie Kenealy and skip, Liz Schlatter, who won 23-14.
