BATCHWOOD HALL BOWLING CLUB - PRESS REPORT 8th June 2026
.A team from Batchwood played Hatfield club at home in the 2nd round of the County Senior Fours. The Batchwood team was John Bell, Mark Trembling, Eddie Clark & Skip Dave Richardson. Grant Gray, the Hatfield Skip, conceded on the 17th end. Batchwood are now through to the Quarter Finals against Buntingford Club.
In the County Pairs John Bell and Skip Brian Parkes played Dave Gauthier's team away at Harpenden. Batchwood won 17 - 12.
In the Ladies' County Pairs Joyce Hopkinson and Sue Swain played Ann-Marie Suart-Reed and Jennie Redford of Harpenden Club at home. The Batchwood pair won 19 - 9. In the next round they met Val Challacombe and Rhianna Russell away at Welwyn & District Club. Rhianna (aged 19) was in seven finals at the National Finals at Leamington last year and plays for England. Batchwood pair conceded at 29 - 10!
In the Men's County League Batchwood played Potters Bar club at home. In appalling weather conditions, continual rain fell throughout the afternoon. Batchwood convincingly beat Potters Bar on both rinks. John Bell, Eddie Clark, Mark Trembling and Skip Dave Richardson played Dave Sparrow's team and won 22 - 10. Joshua David, George Tutt, John Turkentine and Skip Brian Parkes played Richard Pearce's team winning 19 - 8. Batchwood winning on both rinks.
In the Men's County Top Club Batchwood beat Welwyn Garden City 3 - 2. The match depended on a thrilling last end in the Triples discipline with Mark Trembling skipping two new bowlers to an exciting win, score 14 - 13. Another nailbiter was the singles which Brian Parkes won with the last wood to beat Gary Walton. It was encouraging that Batchwood fielded 3 new bowlers in the team: Ian Young, Daren Coats and Jon Quick.
In the District Triples Chris Kelly, John Turkentine and Skip Andy Pierce played Welwyn Garden City Club at home. It was played on a rainy, dismal evening. WGC conceded after 13 ends Batchwood winning 21 - 4.
Batchwood played for the Michael O'Brien trophy at home against Harperbury Club. It was a very tight games with Harperbury coming out on top with a score of 73 - 71. Our Top Rink was Jackie Bell, Eddy Thackery and Brenda Bennitt.
Approximately 24 staff members of Everyone Active had a Team-Bonding session on Friday morning which was followed by a relaxing afternoon on the Bowling Green. Members from the Bowls Club showed them the basics of the game. It was a fairly noisy afternoon which was enjoyed by all.
