Batchwood Hall Bowling Club – PRESS REPORT August 4th 2025
BATCHWOOD LADIES WON THE LADIES SENIOR FOURS AT THE HERTS COUNTY FINALS AND NOW PLAY IN THE NATIONAL FINALS AT LEAMINGTON!
Batchwood Ladies Senior Fours played in the Herts County Final at Bishops Stortford against a team from Sawbridgeworth skipped by Helen Carson. The Batchwood team was Brenda Bennitt, Joyce Hopkinson, Jenny Gauthier & skip Jackie Bell. Batchwood team won 21 – 8. They now proceed to the National Finals. Hertfordshire (Batchwood Hall BC) play Leicestershire ((New Lount BC) on 17th August.
Batchwood played a triples match away at Harpenden. Batchwood won 71 – 65. Top rink was Joshua David, Jackie Kenealy and Sue Swain 23 – 10. Well done Joshua who played very well in only his third game for the club.
Batchwood‘s team of John Bell, Brian Parkes and Skip Dave Gauthier played Harperbury in the District 2 wood triples quarter final. It was played at home and was a very tightly fought game. It was 20-all on the penultimate end. On the final end Harperbury were holding 3 shots, then Brian Parkes moved the jack with Batchwood then holding 3 shots. Next bowl, delivered by Harperbury’s skip Aaron Langley, made Batchwood go one shot down. Batchwood’s skip Dave Gauthier’s bowl then arrived in the head giving Batchwood one shot. Aaron missed with his last wood, meaning Dave didn’t have to bowl his last wood. An excellent end with Batchwood winning 21 – 20. What a game!
Sandra Clark & Liz Schlatter played their Ladies District pairs at Batchwood against Viv Dale & Linda Brooks of Harpenden. The game was very evenly matched for the first half. At 6 ends they were 5 all. At 10 ends they were 10 all. Things changed on the twelfth end with Harpenden scoring 5 shots, Batchwood immediately retaliated by winning 6 shots on the next end. The game then changed course with Batchwood scoring on all but one of the remaining ends winnng 25 – 16. What a game!
Batchwood Ladies played in the District Double Rink against Welwyn Garden City (WGC). One team played away, one at home. The home team for Batchwood was Liz Walls, Marilyn Grover, Sandra Clark & Sue Swain. During play some bowls were left short of the head leaving the back-end players with a challenge. The WGC team was skipped by Cheryl Avery. Batchwood won 21 – 8. The away team for Batchwood was Joyce Hopkinson, Yvonne McCauliffe, Kate Horner & skip Jackie Bell. The WGC team was skipped by Linda Kilmister. The game was very close up until the 13th end when Batchwood started pulling away. They eventually won 18 – 12. Batchwood play North Mymms in the next round.
In the Ladies District triples competition Yvonne McCauliffe, Sandra Clark & Sue Swain played a team from Welwyn & District skipped by Rita Beasley. The game was very one sided and Rita conceded on the twelfth end 6 – 20. Batchwood go through to the quarter-finals and play North Mymms.
