BATCHWOOD HALL BOWLING CLUB - PRESS REPORT May 18th 2026
A quiet week on the match front but many competitions with some fantastic results against some strong opposition
Batchwood played in two County Fours competitions. Dave Richardson, Mark Trembling, Eddie Clark and Gary Costen played Nick Muir, John Osborn, Joe Fester & Neil Harrington of Harpenden at home. Batchwood were 18 – 1 down but drew level on the 18th end; an extra end had to be played to decide the winner. Batchwood won. What a comeback!
The other County 4’s was also played at home. Aqil Nasser, Chris Kelly, John Turkentine & Andy Pierce played Alan Charran’s team from Townsend. They were 12-all on the 16th end, Batchwood won by one shot.
John Bell, Mark Trembling, Dave Richardson & Eddie Clark played in the National Senior 4’s away at Welwyn & District against Paddy Jones, Skip Chris Valle, Barry Smith & Peter Bowler. The game finished on the 14th end with a score of 19 – 6 as the opposition conceded.
Batchwood played the second round of the Club 2 x 4 competition away against Berkhamsted. They arrived in a thunderstorm but luckily it cleared up in time to start the game and it finished in the dry but very cold. One rink was level and even edged in front but lost by 4 shots in the end. Berkhamsted won the match.
At the weekend Batchwood played Potters Bar Club away in the Men's District League. George Tutt, Men's Captain, said it was cold, overcast and a little rain. Green very unpredictable. Batchwood lost on two rinks and won on one rink. Points for Potters Bar 60, Batchwood 20. Top rink was Mark Trembling, John Turkentine, George Tutt and John Bell.
