BATCHWOOD HALL BOWLING CLUB – PRESS REPORT - 7th September 2026

Batchwood Finals take place on 12th & 13th September – VISITORS WELCOME

The Batchwood Finals are being held on the weekend of 12th & 13th September. All spectators are very welcome. Why not come along and watch some interesting games – it may whet your appetite to take up a challenging precision and strategy sport. The semi-finals have been taking place over the past 2 weeks.

Integra League

The Integra League at Batchwood Hall BC is a playing / coaching device which is aimed at encouraging newer bowlers to participate in competitive games. More experienced bowlers are encouraged to participate and share their understanding of the basic rules and playing conditions. All members who have joined the club since 2020 are eligible to play for the Trophy. Over 20 members have participated during the season.

This year the League has been disrupted by the weather conditions and some playing days have not been possible. Integra is played weekly over two days (one evening and one weekend). This helps with members who have differing playing availability.

The principal of the scoring is the shots (bowls nearest to the Jack) scored based on the old fashioned Spoon Drive. Players can play as often as they wish but a minimum of 4 games are needed to be eligible for the trophy. Players keep individual scores each week, the four highest totals being used to arrive at a play-off which will be taking place on Thursday 10th September when a buffet meal will be served after the game. The enthusiasm and passion for the game has been displayed by the competitors every week.

St Albans & District Mens Bowling Association Finals

Two teams from Batchwood BC qualified to play in the SADBA finals at the weekend. The team of Eddie Clark, Mark Trembling and skip Dave Richardson played in the 2-wood triples against a team from Harpenden skipped by Steve Maynard. The team from Harpenden won. The pairs team of Mark Trembling and Dave Richardson played a team from Welwyn Garden City skipped by Gordon Avery. Sixty teams of pairs entered this competition, played over six rounds, to reach the Final. The team from Welwyn Garden City won. It was a great achievement for the two Batchwood teams to reach the final even if they fell at the last hurdle.
