BATCHWOOD HALL BOWLING CLUB – PRESS REPORT - 22nd June2026
Batchwood had a tremendous weekend even if it was nail-biting! Two amazing wins against strong opposition…
Batchwood played the Men’s Top Club Quarter Finals against Hemel Hempstead away at the weekend. It is played over 5 disciplines. In the 2 wood singles John Bell won 16 – 10; we lost the singles; the pairs team of Gary Costen & Dave Richardson were tying on the penultimate end 16-all and they won by one shot 17 – 16; we lost the triples; the fours team of Joshua David, George Tutt, Jon Quick and Skip John Turkentine went into the last end one shot down but managed to pick up 2 shots and won 14 – 13. As we won 3 of the 5 disclipines we go through to the next round - well done Batchwood! What a nail-biter!
Batchwood Men played in the Bob Vise competition away against Townsend. This was another nail-biting tussle. John Bell played the singles winning by 16 shots. The triples team of George Tutt, Eddie Clark and skip Mark Trembling won by 9 shots. The Pairs lost by 10 shots, and the fours lost by 13 shots. This levelled the match to 2-All. The shots were 62-All. The decider was down to the number of ends won. Batchwood won 39, Townsend won 29. So Batchwood are the winners and proceed to play Potters Bar. The other semi-final is between Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield.
Batchwood ladies played Potter Bar team 1 at home in the County League. The Batchwood team was Jackie Bell, Brenda Bennitt, Sandra Clark and Skip Sue Swain who played Jean Scott’s team. It was a fairly one-sided game with Batchwood coming out on top with a win of 21 – 9.
The Batchwood team of Joshua David, Chris Kelly and Skip, John Turkentine played Welwyn Garden City’s team skipped by Gary Walton in the St Albans & Distict Triples competition at home. At ten ends Batchwood were one shot ahead at 11 – 10. The Welwyn Garden City team did not score again and conceded on the fourteenth end with Batchwood winning 19 – 10. Batchwood are now through to the last eight teams and will play Harpenden in the Quarter Finals.
